Mawarid Desert Control is now Soyl

Hamdan bin Zayed receives Mariam Al Mheiri and reviews Barari’s efforts in supporting environmental sustainability and forest management technologies

Abu Dhabi – His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, received Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed Al Mheiri, Chairwoman of Mawarid Holding, at Al Sila Palace in Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting, His Highness was briefed on the key initiatives and achievements of Barari Natural Resources, a subsidiary of Mawarid Holding, which is one of the leading companies in the UAE in the field of environmental and forest management, responsible for maintaining and developing large areas of forest assets across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

His Highness listened to an explanation of the latest sustainable technologies employed by the company in the areas of soil, energy, and water, which enhance sustainability, biodiversity, and climate resilience.

His Highness also reviewed the details of the Liquid Natural Clay (LNC) technology — a patented innovation that transforms arid desert sand into fertile soil capable of retaining moisture, enabling plants to grow with up to 60% less water, while increasing crop productivity.

Barari, through its subsidiary Soyl, holds the exclusive license and distribution rights for this technology in the UAE, and it is produced locally within project sites. The technology has been tested by the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), and Masdar City announced the technology in its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report. The innovation has also received global recognition from leading international institutions such as the World Economic Forum, the European Union, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in appreciation of its environmental impact in greening deserts, conserving water, and restoring agricultural lands.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan affirmed that the UAE, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, attaches great importance to protecting the environment, developing forests, and promoting the principles of sustainability. His Highness noted that “adopting innovative solutions such as Liquid Natural Clay reflects the UAE’s commitment to scientific research and modern technologies in service of the Climate Neutrality 2050 goals, and to achieving environmental and food security in line with the wise leadership’s vision for a more sustainable future.”

For her part, Her Excellency Mariam Al Mheiri expressed her appreciation for His Highness’s continued support for sustainability projects in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, confirming that Barari continues to expand the local applications of LNC technology to contribute to strengthening food and water security and protecting ecosystems across the UAE.

The LNC technology contributes to enhancing environmental efficiency by reducing groundwater consumption by up to 60% and cutting carbon emissions by around 30%, while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
